CDC: COVID-19 vaccine drastically cuts hospitalizations

The CDC has released new data about the effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccines in the real world. The agency says fully vaccinated adults age 65 and over are 94% less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19. CBS News’ Chris Martinez reports on efforts to get more people vaccinated, and Dr. Krutika Kuppalli joins CBSN to discuss.

BREAKING: 'Major breakthrough' as UK scientists find cheap steroid cuts COVID-19 deaths

Scientists in the UK have discovered a cheap and available treatment for COVID-19 patients.

They have described the use of a common steroid drug as a “major breakthrough”.

The drug, dexamethasone, reduced death rates by a third for patients on ventilators, and by a fifth for patients needing oxygen.
