Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Covid-19 vaccine for children and booster doses, which PM Modi termed as precaution doses, for frontline workers and senior citizens, amid the Omicron scare. Children between the age group of 15 to 18 years will be getting the Covid vaccine from January 3, 2022. COVID-19: BC announces enhanced public health measures including capacity limits | FULL

British Columbia health officials have put new restrictions in place, including social gathering limits, to help reduce the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in the province, announced provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry on Friday.

Starting on Monday, indoor gatherings are restricted to one household plus 10 other individuals or one additional household if everyone is vaccinated against COVID-19.

Rules are also being amended to require B.C. Vaccine card proof of vaccine for all organized events. Currently, only events of 50 or more people must use the vaccine card.

The province will also be requiring event operators to use the QR code, rather than visual checks of the vaccine card.

“We have been watching very closely what has been happening across this country, and here in B.C. It is becoming very apparent that the trajectory of Omicron taking over Delta is happening here,” said Henry.

On Wednesday, the federal government issued a travel advisory against non-essential international travel.

IN FULL: WA announces three-week cricket vaccination drive, no COVID-19 cases | ABC News

There are no new cases in WA. 85.3% of WA’s eligible 12+ population have had their first vaccine dose, and 73.4% is fully vaccinated.

The state government has announced a three-week summer vaccine drive which will see COVID-19 pop-up clinics made available at cricket games and supermarkets.

This weekend’s BBL women’s Scorchers final at Perth Stadium will be the first. Premier Mark McGowan says select Woolworths and Aldi stores will also be involved.

Maharashtra Announces Stricter COVID-19 Curbs, Section 144 From Today; Know What's Open & Shut

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday announced more strict restrictions in the whole state and imposed Section 144 starting from 8 pm today for a period of 15 days. The restrictions will be in effect till 7am, 1 May. “All establishments, public places, activities to remain closed. Essential services exempted, their operations to be unrestricted,” according to a notification by the Maharashtra government.

“Section 144 to be imposed in the entire state from tomorrow. I will not term this as lockdown,” he said.

There were lots of announcements in today’s Downing Street briefing so here’s a quick summary of the main points:

The four tests for easing lockdown in England have been met, so step two of the roadmap for relaxing restrictions can go ahead on 12 April
This includes the reopening of non-essential shops and allowing pubs and restaurants to serve customers outdoors
The prime minister says there is nothing in the current data to suggest England will have to deviate from its roadmap out of lockdown
The PM says the government is “hopeful” international travel can go ahead from 17 May and it will aim to give the industry “as much notice as possible”. But he says it is important to be “mindful” of the surge taking place in other parts of the world
The Global Travel Taskforce will report later this week but an update on its ongoing review published today sets out how the government intends to bring in a risk-based traffic light system for non-essential international travel
The government has also set out some of its thinking of the use of Covid status certificates – but the PM says they will not be part of stage two or three of the easing of lockdown.

COVID-19: Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces 28-day province-wide ‘shutdown’ – April 1, 2021

In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They are joined by Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, and Adalsteinn Brown, co-chair of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table. The premier announces a month-long shutdown for the entire province starting April 3. The new public-health restrictions mean the closing of some non-essential services including gyms, as well as indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants. Essential businesses will remain open at 50 per cent capacity while non-essential retail stores will be allowed to operate at 25 per cent capacity. Indoor gatherings will be prohibited and outdoor gatherings limited to five people. The measures come following a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the province.
