Alberta Premier Jason Kenney presented the latest COVID-19 modelling projections put together by provincial health officials to Albertans on Tuesday evening during a special address.
Kenney called the COVID-19 pandemic “the greatest challenge of our time” and outlined a “probable” scenario, which suggested the province could hit the peak of its outbreak by mid-May and showed that the virus could claim between 400-3,100 Albertans’ lives by the end of summer.
Kenney added that under a “more serious but less likely elevated scenario,” Alberta could see infections peak at the beginning of May, with as many as 1 million infections and between 500 and 6,000 deaths.
The numbers presented by Kenney were based on modelling done by Alberta Health.
As of Tuesday evening, Alberta had 1,373 positive cases of COVID-19 and 26 deaths.
